About the Artist
Peter Michalski was born 1967 in Germany. He lives in a small village in the west of Germany. Being a woodturner, he made artisan bowls and vessels which he exhibited in galleries and lifestyle shops. He used to smoke pipes since the age of 20. So one day it was just consequential for the woodturner that he wanted to make his own pipes. As he kept on making pipes for his own, he started to introduce his work to the public – and there was much positive response. So many years of woodturning is the basis of his way of making pipes. "I try to keep the old traditional craftsmanship of turning pipes alive. Developing shapes on the lathe, designing lines and bringing precise work steps to even more perfection. I am enthusiastic in craftsmanship and I am enthusiastic in pipes. And during the process I always have a citation of Peter Handke in my mind: The shape expects me – and you – and it goes all thoroughly through me" the artisan said.
