About the Item

SMOOTH DOUBLE HORN CALABASH SMOKING PIPE

You are seeing another interesting creation by Russian master Kotylar. Recently he is developing his ability to carve some very beautiful Calabash smoking pipes integrated with some classic elements. The result is some thing very artistic and yet fully practical. This sculptural Double Horn pipe composed of two separate horn shapes which are linked together in the 90 degree angle. The vertical horn is actually the Bowl Chamber and the horizontal one is the air chamber. The whole structure is very well-designed, professionally stained and perfectly finished.

The Double Horn offers very tight-lines of briar textures on the Bowl sides, and pretty beautiful bird-eyes finish on the Foot and Shank area. What echoes the color harmony in the item is the insertion of Sucupria on the Shank face. Stunning parallel pattern of Sucupria is in absolute harmony with the color and texture of the briar. This quite new and interesting shape of Double Horn pipe by this artisan can be highly appreciated by the smokers who admire the combination of Horn and Calabash system.

About the Artist

Peter Kotlyar was born (1973) and raised in Vladivostok city, Russia. The passion of carving the pipe was in his soul and soon he was completely fascinated by the variety of the shapes and systems. When he bough his first pipe and smoke it he was just thinking he could carve a pipe for himself and by his hands. The fist work was not perfect but very promising for him. Soon he carves more and more until the time that he became a master. He mostly learned from his mistakes and now his pipe are placed all around the world. " I am making pipes for my soul and not for the commerce" he said. He is carving his pipes with the briar from Spain and Sardinia, for the mouthpieces he uses the German ebonite and cumberland. He mostly inserts some antique materials in his smoking pipes and in this case he has his own unique way and technique to express his feeling during carving.
