About the Item

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science." Einstein, Albert. This high-end piece of art is about the marine mollusc. Nautilus from Greek ('sailor') is the common name of Pelagic marine mollusuks of the family Nautilidae. It comprises six living species in two genera, the type of which is the genus Nautilus. The Nautilus has survived relatively unchanged for 450 million years and is one of the only shells to survive from the Dinosaurs era. This is why the Nautilus is sometimes referred to as a "living fossil". The Nautilus is a nocturnal creature and spends most of its time in the great depths of the ocean. The Nautilus shell, lined with mother-of-pearl, grows into increasingly larger chambers throughout its life and so has become a symbol for expansion and renewal.

Dating back to Hindu mythology, the Nautilus Shell was mentioned as a symbol of many things in the creation. It is also a symbol for the inner beauty of nature. The Nautilus shell is one of the known shapes that represent the golden mean number. The golden mean number is also known as PHI - 1.6180339... The PHI is a number without an arithmetic solution, the digits simply continue for eternity without repeating themselves. The uniqueness of the Nautilus mean is that it can be found in all living forms such as the human skeleton, the shell and the sunflowers seeds order. Plato called this value - "The key for the universe physics".

With this background we back to this brilliant item.  It is designed, formed and Finished on 2014 by the Serbian world pipe Maker Dragomir. When the art, science and imagination combine together to form a unique creation in the shape of a smoking pipe, the result comes out some thing astonishing "The Nautilus". The color of finish was chosen very cleverly by the artisan to reflect the ancient and meritorious history of Nautilus. Charming way of briar  engraving,  unbelievable work of bone insertion on the pipe stand and tamper are obviously make this Unique item very interesting.

One interesting point about Nautilus kit is the pipe stand itself. The color and the shape of the stand was designed in a very elegant way. It expresses the simplicity and at the same time this simplicity will catch the attention when the pipe will locate in its place. The Nautilus will locate at the top of the stand which can cleverly reflect the old age of this creation during Pyramid time in Geology. The Tamper places down and in front of the pipe. Both places to locate for the pipe and tamper are designed and carve with white bone.

About the Artist

Aleksić Dragomir or so called Alexa was born in 1956, in Belgrade, Serbia. Formally educated as a mechanics engineer he acquired the skills needed around the machinery forty years ago. During his engineering career, firstly he nurtured his talent for artistic wood carving, as a hobby. Long has he desired to combine his natural artistic talent and his education inprecision  engineering.  Finally  in  1995,  his  career  took a change in  direction  when he decided to make his hobby a full  time job, working as a designer and a wood carver infurniture production at first and as an indipendent pipe maker today.

What led him to be making smoking pipes specificly was pure luck, as it often happens with great moments in one's life. Years ago a chance meeting with an old acquaintance led him  to witness a truly magnificet collection of smoking pipes in possesion of a passionate pipe smoker. Fascination followed promptly and a new passion was born! Smoking pipes had been a fascination of his in two ways - first, there was the beauty of form and material in them, elegance in their design, a true art form in its own right and second, the irresistible challenge of making a functional product that requires skill, knowledge and patience  to bemade. Great determination was required and produced to learn as much as one can about pipe smoking, pipe making, about tobacco, materials, about the art of it all. As a result of his hard work, a number of unique pipes have been made and presented at Pipesart.
